If budget weren’t a concern, what would you include in your dream home? We’ve gathered ideas from this week’s articles to provide a little inspiration for your fantasies.
1. A grand kitchen. No dream home is complete without a dream kitchen, and this Atlanta space sure fits the bill. Soaring ceilings, plenty of gorgeous cabinetry and hardware, a butcher block island and beadboard walls are just a few standout features to fulfill our fantasy.
2. Chiseled-edge countertops. The rough, raw edge on these Mysore Black granite countertops, paired here with knotty alder cabinets in an auburn stain, creates a not-too-perfect look that’s hard not to admire.
3. A place for the stand mixer. As long as we’re dreaming, we can fantasize about all the free time we’ll have to actually bake things in our new kitchen. And of course we’ll have a spot for every appliance, such as this nifty pullout dedicated to a stand mixer.
4. Double islands. Of course, a grand kitchen should have (at least) two islands. This spacious Canadian kitchen features an island with storage and a sink as well as another island for dining. Oh, and we’ll take one of those dedicated Jack Daniel’s-themed bars while we’re at it.
5. Diner seating. The great thing about putting together a dream kitchen is that it doesn’t have to be completely cohesive — just like a real dream isn’t. This diner setup in a Los Angeles kitchen evokes a bit of nostalgia and ensures a fun experience every morning.
6. A stylish laundry room. In a dream home, no expense is spared in any space. That was the idea behind this laundry room created by designer Dina Bandman for the 2017 San Francisco Decorator Showcase. The blue-and-white room features hand-painted de Gournay wallpaper, a window treatment from Lee Jofa and porcelain tile flooring from Country Floors. And there’s even a stunning tiled dog wash station.
7. Durable fabrics. I don’t know about you, but in my dream home there’s always a party going on. And that means the furniture has to be able to take a beating. These sofas are covered in durable outdoor fabric (from Perennials), which means they’re resistant to stains, fading and even mildew. Party on!
8. A vintage leather sofa. Apart from durable fabric furniture, a large vintage leather sofa is an entertainer’s dream. This iconic 1970s Non Stop leather sofa from De Sede feels right at home in this Beverly Hills, California, bachelor pad.
9. Custom light fixture. While we’re decking out our dream living room, any old lighting won’t do. Take a cue from this London home and its artistic light fixture. It’s a triangulated LED design with an aluminum framework, suspended beneath three skylights.
10. Outdoor oasis. Let’s move our attention away from indoors and into the great outdoors. Of course our dream home would be in an area with a dream climate that allows outdoor living year-round. This San Francisco outdoor space feature various zones that have it all: a stainless steel grill and pizza oven, an ipe wood deck, a fire pit, lounge seating and a hot tub.
11. Sunken swimming pool lounge. Somewhere in our outdoor oasis has to be a swimming pool. And within that swimming pool has to be a sunken lounge with fire pit.
12. Walled-in garden. And for a private escape, we’ll want to wander through a walled-in garden replete with brick walls, water features, clipped hedges and rosebushes, just like this London space.
13. A cushy porch swing. Few things feel dreamier than a large, plush porch swing with room enough for two.
14. A grand entrance. The dream should start the moment you arrive home. Here, a stunning entry gate includes an antique wood-and-iron door beneath an arbor and a lantern.
15. A dedicated dressing room. A room of one’s own is a must in any dream home. For some people, that might include a quiet, private space for getting dressed. Here, a former storage space became a stylish, dedicated room for just that.
16. Custom closet storage. Apart from a dressing room, a large, spacious walk-in closet will most definitely be included. And within that space, custom storage solutions will reign supreme. Here, a custom pullout shelf stores several pairs of shoes.
17. Cheery bathroom style. A limitless budget doesn’t have to equate to garish, extravagant style. Dream spaces should make you feel happy and upbeat. Here, a green vanity and patterned window seat cushion exude playfulness amid elegant tile and finishes.
18. Statement wall in the shower. OK, a little opulence shouldn’t be ruled out. Here, a gorgeous slab of Azul Macaubas quartzite dazzles in a Barcelona, Spain, bathroom.
19. Hand-painted walls. There’s a lot to be said for all the wallpaper options these days. But few things come close to having walls hand-painted in a unique design. In this powder room, an artist created a lovely forest scene.
20. A garage bar. Finally, to me, you can’t call it a dream home unless you’ve got your own bar. Here, two architects converted their garage into a lively entertainment area featuring a quartz bar counter atop painted wood pallets.
