Colorful Contemporary

“Headboard design is important because it creates a focus in a room. It centers a space, and it gives the room its initial ‘language,'” says Deborah Wecselman of Deborah Wecselman Design. In this contemporary space, “the headboard serves to pull the room together; it complements the wall and enhances the total look,” she says.

“We decided to use a curvy shaped, upholstered headboard highlighted with nickel nailheads to complement the tile backdrop of the wall,” Wecselman says. The deep sage hue of the headboard is pulled from the fun multicolored wall, and the nailhead trim echoes the colorful circle design with a bit of timeless sophistication.

Coastal Collaboration

“We like to mix styles when designing a space, and this room can be described as a mix of modern, coastal and cottage styles,” says Regan Baker of Regan Baker Design. This bedroom is in a home in Carmel-by-the-Sea and Baker’s design was inspired by the popular coastal destination in California.

Here, the raffia headboards make a subtle statement, bringing depth and interest, all while maintaining the coastal feel. Says Baker, “We thought they would be perfect because they added some texture, warmth and beach vibes!”

So Shabby Chic

Refreshed with white linens and given a little glamour with a crystal chandelier, this beautiful bedroom was well on its way to a shabby-chic look. Vintage furniture adds another important element to this space.

But it’s the worn, textural richness provided by the old, chippy wooden doors used as a headboard that really completes this unique style.

Cool Rustic Industrial

A wood-paneled focal wall brings welcoming rustic warmth to this bedroom, while corrugated metal cut to mimic a shapely vintage design cleverly adds undeniable industrial vibes as a headboard.

Pops of yellow accessories add a bright and fun element to the otherwise hushed gray, blue and white color scheme.

Cozy Cottage

With its mix of subtle patterns and soft colors, along with the found feel of the collections of frames and books, this guest room is ultra inviting. A monogrammed, burlap-covered headboard adds to the down-home coziness, bringing understated natural texture and color to the scene.
