With so many families affected by the government shutdown, North Texas businesses are lending a helping hand to those who may need one right now.
For AT&T customers affected by the shutdown, the company is offering flexible payment options to keep your services up and running. AT&T says “just because the government is shut down doesn’t mean your phone, TV, and internet should stop working too.”
Other major wireless providers including Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon are also willing to work with affected government employees.

Hope Supply Co: Diapers and hygiene products
Hope Supply Co., a nonprofit that helps the homeless and at-risk children with supplies, school materials, toiletries, diapers and more. They are the largest diaper bank in Texas and are offering a week’s worth of free diapers, baby wipes, baby hygiene products and adult hygiene items to federal workers. Government workers are required to bring their ID to the venue to pick up products. The drive will take place on Friday, Jan. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 10480 Shady Trail, Suite 104.
Sharing Life Community Outreach: Food pantry
The church wants your help identifying families that need assistance right now. On their Facebook page they say they’re ready to help local families provide nutritious food to anyone in need.
Alamo Drafthouse DFW: Free movies
Alamo Drafthouse DFW is offering all federal employees free movies throughout the month of January to help cure the “shutdown blues.”
Monday through Thursday, in January, government employees affected by the shutdown are eligible for one free ticket per day when they show federal ID at the box office. The free ticket is only for the federal employee — no plus ones.
Operation Kindness: Free pet food and cat litter
Operation kindness will hand out free bags of pet food and cat litter to government employees affected by the shutdown. The food and litter will be handed out from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 17) and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Jan. 19) at their Pet Food Pantry located at 3959 Belt Line Road in Addison.
Plano ISD: Free/reduced meals
Furloughed employees can apply for free or reduced priced meals for students in the Plano Independent School District. Parents can apply on Plano ISD’s Food and Nutritional Services website. Applications take 10 days to be processed.
Chase is encouraging affected customers to reach out to discuss available hardship programs. They can do so by calling 1-888-356-0023.
EECU in Fort Worth: Financial assistance
Education Employees Credit Union is offering people affected by the shutdown some financial assistance during this difficult time. To get assistance, they’re asking you call 817-882 0067.
