“Celebrating Texas Creativity” is the theme of the 2019 State Fair of Texas, which runs Sept. 27-Oct. 20 in Fair Park. In addition to new exhibits and shows, ribbon-winning entries in Creative Arts, and one-of-a-kind fair foods, special activities during the fair’s 24-day schedule include free concerts on the Main Stage and college football games in the Cotton Bowl. Daily activities include the Starlight Parade at 7 p.m. and the Illumination Sensation lights and fireworks show at 8 p.m. Must do’s include a visit to Big Tex, rides and carnival games on the midway.

• Seniors 60 and over: Free every Thursday (Oct. 3, Oct. 10, and Oct. 17)
HOURS: Gates open daily at 7 a.m. (except for Sept. 27, when they open at 10 a.m.). State Fair of Texas exhibit buildings open at 10 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays. Opening times and closing times vary for the midway and museums.
PARKING: Self parking is available on official State Fair lots for $20 per space. Valet parking is available for $40 at Gate 5 (Grand Avenue) daily and at Gate 2 (Perry-Haskell) on Saturdays and Sundays.
RIDING DART: Take the Green Line to Fair Park Station or MLK Jr. Station.
USING UBER: A drop-off and pickup area is at the intersection of Pacific and Gurley, just outside Gate 1. When leaving, exit the fairgrounds before requesting your ride.
