Neighborhood restaurants are including picnic supplies with to-go orders so that diners can enjoy a ‘Square Meal’ in the city’s central square.

If you are like most people, you’ve missed going out to restaurants, coffee shops or bars during the COVID-19 pandemic. And even as many eateries and bars reopen their dining spaces, with case numbers rising across the county and state, you may still worry about being surrounded by people indoors.

Now, 11 downtown Garland restaurants are participating in a “Square Meal” program, offering takeout orders that diners can enjoy away from crowds outside in the city’s central square.

Ask for a “Square Meal” when ordering at a participating restaurant, and you’ll receive a picnic tablecloth, a dinner plate, a salad plate, flatware and napkins, according to the city’s Convention and Visitors Bureau’s website. Then get comfortable in the downtown square as it serves as a makeshift outdoor food hall.

Here are the restaurants in the program:

  • Blue Rat Thai Kitchen
  • Dos Banderas
  • Fish N’ Tails Oyster Bar
  • Hubbard’s Cubbard
  • Intrinsic Smokehouse & Brewery
  • Main Street Café
  • Main Street Deli
  • Millhouse Pizzeria & Stage
  • Paw Paw’s Sweet Shop & Café
  • Rosalind Coffee TX
  • Tavern on the Square
