Open Concept Kitchen With Navy Cabinets Made to Wow

Streamlined Space

To highlight the historic windows in the long and rectangular space, an L-shaped perimeter design with no upper cabinets was used on the kitchen’s sink side. “I wanted to keep the whole kitchen really streamlined and simple,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn.

Classic Buffalo Check

The historic windows are covered with a classic navy blue and white gingham in large-scale pattern. The window treatments complement the kitchen’s Craftsman-style cabinets with inset doors sprayed a glossy shade of navy blue. A five-quart artisan design tilt-head stand mixer, a maple end-grain chopping block and a selection of cookbooks line the counter.

Powerful and Precise

The kitchen’s powerful 36-inch gas cooktop with wall mount hood above has a flexible burner that offers two independent heating elements that deliver intense heat and precise control, making it easy to quickly boil water or reduce the heat to a low simmer.

Make Healthy Meals

The HGTV Urban Oasis 2017 kitchen includes a handy supply of tasty beans for creating healthy family meals.

Advanced Features

The 36-inch black stainless steel gas cooktop with digital Wi-Fi and Bluetooth includes blue LED illuminated knobs that visually let you know if the cooktop is on, even from a distance.

Have a Seat

Navy modern bistro stools with solid elm wood seats allow family and guests to enjoy a drink or snack at the island while visiting with the host or hostess at the cooktop.

Marble Countertops

To the left of the kitchen’s cooking zone sits the sink area with stainless steel dishwasher. The sink area and cooking zone both include beautiful Carrera marble countertops with white and gray that coordinate with the kitchen’s frost white walls and ceiling.

Stylish Sink

The kitchen’s under-mount, apron-front sink offers professional style with easy-to-clean curved corners. Handcrafted from premium quality 16-gauge stainless steel, the 9-inch deep single bowl sink features sound-absorption technology for a quieter performance.

Handy Sink Rack

A rack inside the sink helps safeguard delicate dishes, as well as protect the sink’s surface from daily wear.

Flexible Faucet

The sink’s kitchen faucet with an easy-clean coated hose and removable high arching coil spring is perfect for serious home chefs, with a unique three-function, pull-down spray head for tasks like food prep, filling pots and cleaning.

Top Control Dishwasher

The kitchen’s top-control stainless steel dishwasher offers outstanding cleaning results with a door that automatically pops open to circulate air and speed up drying time at the end of a cycle. The dishwasher also includes a removable rack that makes it easier to unload silverware and oversized utensils.

All in the Details

A polished aluminum reindeer sculpture adds a touch of fun to this corner of the kitchen. A programmable espresso maker, a set of three ceramic navy blue and white storage canisters and a glass vase with a touch of greenery sit on the kitchen counters.

Historical Focal Point

An old red brick wall that was originally a part of a fireplace was whitewashed. By not painting it out opaquely, the texture of the brick still shows to create a lovely backdrop for this charming kitchen that celebrates the history of the Craftsman home.

Convenient Convection Microwave

Incorporated into the center island, the kitchen’s convection microwave cooks food quickly and evenly with a drop-down door design to make loading more convenient.

Pretty Pendants

Two oversized woven rattan pendants with iron frames provide illumination and a striking focal point over the center island. “At first people see them and they’re kind of taken back because they’re big—they’re really big,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn. “But it was on purpose, because we have this huge space in the middle of the kitchen and I didn’t want to put any art on top of the brick, so instead we just have a play on different textures.”
