Paddle Lounge Chairs
The two custom Adirondack chairs that sit on the back deck were made using canoe paddles. The paddle part was used to form the back of the seat and armrest, while the hand portion of the paddle forms the leg and top of the seat. The horizontal seat surface was made from Western Red Cedar.
Creative Canoe Seating
A Huron canoe that was purchased in Northfield, Vermont was used to create the upcycled canoe bench between two posts underneath the main deck. Western Red Cedar was used to create the slat seating in the canoe.
Special Grill Station
The lower deck includes a new black steel charcoal grill with wings and cart removed that was placed inside a gabion span as part of a DIY Network special project.
Clever Storage Crates
Rustic wood crates hang on the mudroom area wall to create open storage for hats, shoes and decorative accessories, including a wood perpetual calendar.
Must-Have Open Storage
A piece of the ambrosia maple, live-edge bench was cut off and used to create the mudroom’s upper open shelf with art and a collection of vintage bowls.

Island Style
The kitchen’s custom island that was a DIY Network special project has a hammered black metal base with bottom shelf and small overhang countertop height bar that was softened up with a white oak top with a polyurethane finish. Western Red Cedar beams added to the already vaulted ceiling for visual interest were treated with a combination of steel wool, vinegar and black tea for a weathered look.
