What do you need to earn to live in your dream DFW neighborhood?

“Relying on Zillow for real estate facts is like relying on Wikipedia or WebMD to diagnose yourself. Looking at the zip code you listed, 75240, there are only 4 houses listed for sale under your stated median price of $273,200. MLS states median price of sold houses in 2018 was $374,000.
If you look at condo / townhomes in the same zip codes then the median sold price in 2018 was $146,361.
The metroplex remains affordable compared to most cities its size. To find out what a buyer can afford or where a price range can be found…call a Realtor…not Zillow.”

North Texas counties all fall below the midpoint line for affordability in the state. But not all ZIP codes are created equally when it comes to affordability, a Dallas Business Journal analysis shows.

According to the Texas A&M Real Estate Center’s latest affordability index of the largest counties in the state, Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties are all in the lower half of affordability. Dallas County, in fact, is only more affordable than Travis and Kerr counties.

However, when you take a microscopic look at North Texas, homebuyers will find they can get away with making less money if they’re willing to be flexible with where they live in the Metroplex.

For example, a household making just over $55,000 a year can afford a home in the crux of Interstate 635, the Dallas North Tollway and U.S. Route 75 near the Galleria, according to Business Journals analysis. The area, which is the 75240 ZIP code, has a median home value of $273,200 according to Zillow data.

Here is a full list of what you need to earn – in addition to median home value and monthly mortgage payments – for the top 20 most desirable ZIP codes in North Texas.
