Family owned and operated Blue Ostrich Winery & Vineyard. For many years this facility was one of the foremost ostrich breeding and ranching facilities in the southwest. The structure that houses our winery, tasting room and corporate offices was once filled with ostrich eggs, chicks and fledglings. The acreage to the west that nurtures our Tempranillo, Viognier and Cabernet grapevines was the same hillside where hundreds of 7 foot tall ostrich roamed during the 80’s and 90’s.

As our ostrich ranching adventure drew to a close and we relinquished our herd, the future of the seven birds remaining was uncertain….. until we needed a name for our winery and vineyard. Today our feathered friends not only adorn the Blue Ostrich label , they also function as as our official winery mascots and welcome you to our beautiful Red River Valley.

Briar Creek Vineyards came into being because of a true delight in the romance of wine and the love of all things Texas.  After medical school, Don and Donna Freeman moved from their roots in Texas to California for training.  We fell in love with the whole production of wine – from growing seasons to harvest, to processing, and of course, tasting the nuances of all the flavors in grapes.  After training and building our family (4 beautiful children) we returned to Texas in 1983, established a home and practice, and have been the benefactors of God’s grace and blessings in the Lone Star State!  Still enamored with the romance of wine and the land in Texas, in 2006 we moved from “the city” to “country life”.  We built our home on 56 acres located SE of Tyler on Briar Branch of Mud Creek and planted 2-1/2 acres of classic vinifera.  We have experienced the challenges of a farmer, especially in Texas, as well as the many blessings of God and nature.  We invite you to experience the Texas version of wine-making…

Ray has been a winemaker since his teens and Sue raises Dwarf Nigerian Dairy Goats. Making cheese to go with the wine made perfect sense! “If you could do or be anything you wanted and money was not a factor what would you be?” Sue asked Ray in the aftermath of 9/11. “I’d like to have a vineyard and winery” Ray replied. The rest was a lot of hardwork, money we didn’t have but we’re getting there!

St. Rose Vineyard and Winery (formerly Guerra Vineyards and Winery) is a boutique winery located in the piney woods of East Texas. This country winery specializes in muscadine and fruit wines. The soil and climate of East Texas are ideal for this native grape, which has been identified as one of nature’s most healthful foods. The muscadine grape and wine are very aromatic and possess a very fruity taste. The fruit wines, all made from fresh fruit, include blueberry, strawberry, blackberry, peach and pear. In loving memory of Rosemary, our founder, the winery changed its name to St. Rose Vineyard and Winery. Mark and Ann Arra, along with their three sons, family and friends, continue to operate and grow the vineyard and winery. A unique tasting room was constructed from the transformation of a 100-year-old sweet potato smokehouse.
