The Biscuit Bar’s Deep Ellum location opens Nov. 21.

Five more locations of The Biscuit Bar are expected to open by early 2020.
The D-FW-based co-owners of the shop have signed leases in Deep Ellum, Arlington, Coppell, Fort Worth and Abilene. They currently operate two Biscuit Bars, in Plano and University Park, which opened in spring 2018 and spring 2019, respectively.
What’s more, husband and wife Janie and Jake Burkett had their third child in September. Restaurants and infants combined, the Burketts have six new babies.
Their country-chic restaurants center around family recipes for biscuits and gravy. Janie says Jake made as many as 10,000 biscuits in their home kitchen during the months when their first-born was an infant. Janie has a background in commercial real estate and Jake is involved in raising the capital for the company.
All seven of the current and coming-soon Biscuit Bars will be owned by the Burketts; they don’t have plans to turn it into a franchise, they say. Their biggest seller is The Hoss, a piece of fried chicken on a biscuit with bacon, cheese, honey butter and sausage gravy.

It isn’t a healthy place — though they do have a few salads. Some of its locations near college campuses might see an especially strong late-night and brunch crowd.
“What inspired us was, really, just to have simple food,” Janie says.
