You’re invited to the elephant pool party. At the Fort Worth Zoo’s new habitat, Elephant Springs, the seven Asian elephants can take a dip and splash around in the 400,000-gallon watering hole and frolic in waterfalls. From a simulated fishing village, visitors can get close to watch the action and use sprayers to shoot water into the river area. Elephant Springs is also home to a greater one-horned rhinoceros, which has its own space with soaking pools and waterfalls. The habitat, which opened April 15, includes multiple overlook areas and walkways with views of grassy spaces with rock formations, shady spots and water features where the elephants and the rhino roam. There is also space for keeper chats and training demonstrations and a merchandise truck with themed items for sale. Because of the pandemic, advance reservations for timed entry are required. The wearing of masks is strongly encouraged.

The Fort Worth Zoo is at 1989 Colonial Parkway, Fort Worth. Through July 4, the zoo is open Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. From July 5 to Aug. 31, it will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. $16 for ages 13 and older, $12 for children 3-12 and seniors 65 and older, free for children 2 and younger.
