What To Do In January In Dallas

Can’t miss events and attractions to kick off the year.

Kick off the year by getting the adrenaline rushing, the bass thumping and your heart crushing on incredible games, live performances and art exhibits across Dallas this January. With more opportunities for live events than we’ve seen in a long time, there’s no better place than Dallas to start a great new year.

Go for the Gold

It’s the height of hockey and basketball season, and there are many opportunities to see the Mavericks and Stars in person in the New Year. Both teams call the American Airlines Center in Victory Park home; the arena is conveniently located near Downtown for a fun evening. Check out our guide to where to pre-game before a Stars or Mavs game!

Weekends are for Wellness

The New Year always brings more opportunities to invite more moments of wellness and mindfulness into our lives. For lifelong or newly-devoted vegans, we’ve collected a list of a few of our favorite vegan spots around the city which offer hearty and animal-free alternatives just for you. If you need a mental health break, reward yourself for making it through the holidays with a getaway for one. Dallas offers so much solo potential that we created an entire luxury solo travel guide to Dallas. As always, you can find multiple wellness-oriented events through our events calendar.

Creative Arts & Inspiration

Look for inspiration in 2023? Spend a relaxing afternoon at the Dallas Museum of Art in the Arts District or create your own art at Upstairs Circus in Deep Ellum. With so many concerts, podcast live shows, and theatrical performances this month, it won’t be easy to choose which to go to first! From drag shows to unbelievable dance performances and everything in between, there’s something for everyone this month. Check out our full calendar to find the best live music, dance, talks, and performances in Dallas in January.

Indoor Fun

The weather outside might be frightful, but there are more than enough fun indoor alternatives to parks and patios to keep you busy in Dallas this winter! Head to the brand new Two Bit Circus with your date or best friends for unforgettable hours of fun. A trendy game space with a lean towards opportunities to play games together as partners or a group, you can fight off zombies, make candy, or be a hungry hippo (all figuratively speaking) to your heart’s content here. Additional indoor fun favorites include Electric Shuffle and Punch Bowl Social in Deep Ellum, Cidercade in the Design District and Another Round in Oak Cliff.

Bookshop Hop

Venture to Southern Dallas and pick up a book on race, culture or history at Pan African Connection Bookstore and Resource Center. This bookstore also offers various programs and educational classes year-round. Head to Deep Vellum for independent bookstore literary gems in Deep Ellum. The local bookstore “pays homage to the marginalized voices often left out of mainstream conversations” and supports a wide range of works from writers of color and the LGBTQ+ community. Wild Detectives in Bishop Arts is the perfect place to curl up with a comforting cup of coffee or tea and a good book from their shop. This bookstore bar often hosts book presentations and other cool events throughout the year as well that can’t be missed.
