By Benjamin Britten (after the play by William Shakespeare)

Location: Ed Landreth Hall

The Opera Studio is thrilled to be presenting this delightful opera by Benjamin Britten. It is a true “ensemble” opera with 19 characters and chorus. The opera will be performed by the entire Opera Studio, as well as some guest artists. The story revolves around three different groups of characters. The first group are the “magicals” who live in the forest and inflict comic confusion on the mortals and each other. The second group is a pair of young couples who are in love – unfortunately they all don’t love the “right” partner. The third is a group of town merchants who are into amateur theatricals and are preparing a play to be performed at the party of a noblemen. All three stories intertwine to great comic effect, set to gorgeous evocative music by Britten. This will be an updated production in modern dress and will be accompanied by dual pianos.
