Dallas County Sheriff’s Posse | Holiday Shopping

This season, you can help the Dallas County Sheriff’s Posse provide much needed assistance to local school children.  We will once again be hosting our annual Shop with a Sheriff Holiday Shopping Tour.  This is a unique program that allows local school children to shop, on their own, to buy gifts for themselves and their family.

Area school officials provide lists of children to the Sheriff’s Posse.  Teachers and counselors help the children prepare a shopping list ahead to time, and then Sheriff’s Posse members and volunteers escort them through participating department stores and allow the children to select their own gifts.  Making their own purchases is a fun and self-esteem  boosting experience for children who often do without.

We need your help.  There are many deserving children and the Dallas County Sheriff’s Posse hopes to reach as many of them as possible.  Your support helps fund this program as well as raise funds to carry on our other work in the community.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Posse is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

Contributions are tax-deductible.

Mounted Patrol

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Posse Mounted Patrol is a volunteer group of reserves who are also horsemen.   The Mounted Patrol operates with legal authority in and outside of Dallas County under the orders of  Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez, helping maintain law and order.  In addition to representing the department through community involvement, the Posse’s special and unique skills are called upon and utilized for some very specific and specialized functions.

Crowd Control & Event Security

The presence of a uniformed, armed officer on horseback is exceptionally effective in controlling large crowds and providing security at large-scale events.  One Sheriff’s Posse officer on horseback can accomplish the same effect as several officers on foot or in a squad car.  Police departments have described the Posse as “indispensable” and as “having prevented disasters and riots” at sporting events, concerts, circuses and outdoor festivals.

Missing Person Searches

When a child, elderly person or other individuals are reported lost, the Posse forms Search & Rescue teams on horseback and foot — far more effective than cars at locating the missing person.

Security Escort for Presidents and Dignitaries

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Posse was the first in Texas and one of very few in the nation to receive certification to work with the Secret Service and has provided security escorts for Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, George W. Bush and President Barack Obama.

Partners In Education

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Posse is proud to support the Partners In Education program – a vehicle dedicated to promoting involvement and interaction among the Dallas community, parents and schools in an effort to prepare youth for the challenges of the future.

Working together to build and maintain premier schools, the Dallas Sheriff’s Posse partners with schools to help them meet and exceed goals.

Our Annual Back-to-School Campaign helps provide school supplies and uniforms to children in need.  In addition, the campaign directly supports classroom teachers who often spend their own money to purchase materials for their students when no budgeted money is available.

Throughout the school year, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Posse sponsors the Teacher and Student incentive program which provides specialized educational supplies, achievement and attendance incentives and educational field trips.  In addition, members of the Sheriff’s Posse donate their time to read to younger children, mentor students and provide strong role models within the Dallas Community.  Our goal is to prepare all students to graduate with the knowledge and skills to become productive and responsible citizens.
